The Ives Group led by Joel Ives, AIA designed the Bison facility at the Turtle Back Zoo, which is a unique structure and represented at the time a turning point in the image and direction of the Zoo. It was one of the first buildings that set the tone for a first class local zoo. Located on a hill, the Bison Facility includes the Scottish Highland Cattle exhibit and is sited in a highly visible area, which is a focal point of the zoo. Within the boundaries of the exhibit thousands of adults and children pass by regularly to learn more about the plains animals and the Scottish Cattle as they become more sensitive to the delicate balance of nature. This was the second facility of this nature for our firm, first being the Bison-Elk facility at Van Saun Zoo in Paramus, NJ.
