Wyckoff/Franklin Lakes, New Jersey
The Ives Group, Architects/Planners led by Joel Ives, AIA, early in the 1980’s, designed an educational center for Temple Beth Rishon and was called back years later to design this project which required a larger sanctuary that expanded the facility to 1,180 total seats for the high holidays. Programming also required that the sanctuary be able to be divided into smaller spaces for flexibility of use. The space provides 395 seats, while an additional 785 seats can be accomodated on special occasions. The Ives Group services included site planning, architectural and interior design, construction phasing and overall project coordination. Ives brought in Israeli artist Anat Kaluzshner to design the stained glass windows in the sanctuary. The 6 panels symbolically commemorate the 6 million who died in the Holocaust. This project has been completed for many years and has achieved its goal of providing an inspirational and functional synagogue in northern New Jersey.
