North Elizabeth, New Jersey
The existing North Elizabeth station was destroyed in a fire and a new non-combustible maintenance free brick building was designed by The Ives Group, Architects/Planners led by Joel Ives, AIA. The project was accomplished for New Jersey Transit. It included new ticket agent spaces as well as a pleasant public waiting room with clerestory windows. Ramps and high level platforms were an integral part of the design and handicapped accessibility was provided. A unique canopy design was created to cover the open platforms. Solid glass block was used for shelters to provide an open, safe environment while also providing a durable maintenance free material.
